Matthew 17:14-20

I love the mountains and have had some of my greatest worship experiences walking in the midst of the wilderness. In college, I recall hiking on a Sunday and thinking of home and the church I would be attending if present there. I would be singing worship songs and praising God. For a moment, guilt came across me. Then God gently reminded me of his greatness through a song called “God of this City.” The chorus of the song goes:

For greater things have yet to come
and greater things are still to be done in this city.
Greater things have yet to come
And greater things are still to be done in this city.

Even though I was walking in the mountains, faithfulness reminded me of the eternal hope that Christ has for the city.

The very knowledge that God holds the mountains in his hands brings a shutter of overwhelming joy. God is invincible and his Spirit dwells within his people. As you read, be challenged to go beyond the faith you currently have. “By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another” (John 13:35). Today, trust in faith and know that the almighty God is behind the hope and love you share with others. Do not be discouraged, but persevere through the unswerving hope that is found in Christ.
