I Commit to Jesus
Matthew 7:24-29

A relationship with Jesus leads to a transformed life. When we know and follow Jesus, we study his Word. When we study his Word, it transforms our hearts and minds, and that leads to a change in attitude and action. At the end of the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus makes this comparison between a wise and a foolish builder. When we live according to Christ’s teaching, we are like a wise man who builds his house upon the rock. When we ignore Christ’s teaching and do not respond to his commands, we are like a foolish man who builds his house upon the sand. There is no question or debate the storms of life will come. The winds will blow, the rain will pound upon us, and our foundation will be what makes the difference. We will have illness, financial troubles, marriage struggles, difficulty raising children, challenges at work, depression and anxiety, broken relationships with friends, and the list goes on. The storms are inevitable. If we build our lives on Jesus, then ultimately our lives will stand. We will survive. We may have some damage and we will struggle, but, in the end, we will stand. If we build our lives upon the promises of the world or upon people, then the storms will come and our lives will literally fall apart. What is your life built upon? Where is your hope? Who or what is your authority?
