1 Corinthians 9:24-27

While self-control is something the Spirit produces in us, we must be mindful to actively practice using it. Paul likens it to an athlete that is training. You may be athletically gifted, but in order to compete at any level, you must practice and train. This requires being disciplined in the pursuit of your craft. At times, you are going to have to deny yourself certain liberties; while at other times, you must push beyond your current limitations. Self-control is the wisdom to know when to do one or the other, and through practice, we better understand how to control our own impulses. Where do you need to spend some more time training to better master your impulses?
