1 Peter 1:14-16

Are you growing in Christ? Let me ask it a different way. Are you different today than when you first came to know Christ? When I read today’s Scripture and ask myself these questions, I am both encouraged and frustrated. There are some things I used to struggle with that I am no longer struggling with. In fact, when I look back at them, it is almost hard to believe I turned to those things for satisfaction when what I have in Jesus is so much better. However, then frustration sets in because I also realize there are still things I continue to turn to for comfort and satisfaction instead of Christ. Peter is challenging us to release our grip on those things we cling to for satisfaction and instead strive for holiness by clinging to Christ. My frustration turns to hope because I know that in drawing close to Christ and being obedient to his Word, the Spirit is not done producing within me his desired result. Just as Paul encouraged the church in Philippi, "And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ” (Philippians 1:6, ESV).
