2 Timothy 2:22-26

In general, we like to be praised for our efforts. We do not like being told we are doing something incorrectly. Tone can be motivating. If someone addresses me harshly using their tone to cause me to feel disappointment, frustration or anger, I can lose motivation and desire to listen.

Correcting and teaching others requires us to be gentle in our rebuke and our teaching. God works through our gentleness to cause people to be more willing to listen to the truth.

Can you think of a time when you were approached in a harsh way about something you were doing wrong? How did you feel? How might the outcome regarding your willingness to accept criticism be different if you were spoken to with gentleness?
