Isaiah 40:1-11

In this passage, God has disciplined his people through their exile and now celebrates their healing and return. The writer describes the time when God will restore his people. Many of God’s attributes are depicted including his desire to shepherd his people gently.

Lambs often have difficulty keeping up with the rest of the flock especially when long distances are required of those that are nursing. God treats his people with gentleness, leading them as though they were lambs. Isaiah proclaims the way is being prepared for God to lead his people (see 40:3-5, 9-11). God is at the head and will carry his people when necessary.

God leads and treats his people with gentleness, and we have the privilege of following in his footsteps.
