The Station of Prayer (Jesus in Gethsemane)

John 17:6-12

Jesus turned his attention to the protection and guidance of his disciples. Despite their failures and faults, the disciples received a word of commendation from Jesus in 17:10: “I have been glorified in them.”

The emphasis of this passage is the safety of the believer; God keeps his own (17:11-12). Our safety depends on the nature of God, not our own character or conduct. God has provided all the divine resources we need to glorify him.

Believers are secure in Christ for many reasons: the nature of our Creator God, the nature of salvation, the glory of God, and the intercessory ministry of Christ. Through this prayer of Jesus, Christians can stand in confidence as overcomers of this sinful world because we share his life, his death, and his resurrection. As a result, when we do the work of Christ, God will provide us with whatever we need to boldly advance the gospel to the ends of the earth.
