The Station of Prayer (Jesus in Gethsemane)

John 17:1-5

There is debate among scholars as to where this prayer of Jesus actually took place. Some say the upper room, while others say the Garden of Gethsemane. Regardless of location, it is the greatest prayer ever prayed on earth and the greatest prayer recorded in Scripture. John 17 is certainly the “Holy of Holies” of the gospel record and we must approach it with a spirit of humility and worship.

Jesus began this prayer by praying for himself, but the context of this prayer was to give him the strength to continue to glorify his Father. The servant of God has every right to ask God for the help needed to bring glory to God himself.

The Father answered his Son’s request and gave him the glory. Because Jesus has been glorified in heaven, sinners can be saved on earth. Anyone who places their trust in Jesus Christ will receive the gift of eternal life.
