Stage Four: The Spiritual Parent

2 Timothy 2:1-16

Paul was not just a missionary, not just a spiritual adult. Paul was a spiritual parent. Paul obeyed Jesus—literally. He took Jesus’ words as his marching orders.

Paul passed his faith along to Timothy. “The things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust these to faithful men who will be able to teach others” (2:2).

Four things to note from this passage:
· A spiritual parent has the ability to reproduce and raise up more disciples.
· A spiritual parent releases his disciples to become disciple-makers on their own.
· A spiritual parent maintains relationships with his/her disciples and becomes a co-laborer for Christ with them.
· A spiritual parent continually encourages his spiritual children.
