Jesus prophesied in 7:38 concerning the Holy Spirit who would, after Pentecost, dwell within every believer. Interestingly, after hearing his words, many believed in him. However, there were many who did not accept him as the Christ. Why do you think this was so? For one thing, the Jews looked for a conquering Messiah who would free them from Roman rule. They questioned whether or not he could be the Christ. They did not realize he was, in fact, born in Bethlehem as foretold in Scripture and was indeed of the seed of David, according to the flesh. This resulted in a major division among the people.
Is this any different today? People around the world are divided as to who Jesus really is. Are we not blessed to know him as our personal Lord and Savior?
