What does the Lord's Supper mean? Jesus probably confused his listeners in Capernaum by referring to eating his flesh and drinking his blood. In John 6, he was beginning his seven "I Am" statements, which culminate with "I am the vine" in John 15. The theme is to remain in Christ. Abide in his life, love and death and live eternally with him. In 1 Corinthians 11:23-26, Paul reminds us of the importance of the Lord's Supper. Every time we take communion, we look back at the cross with gratitude for Christ's sacrifice and we joyously celebrate the day he will return.
