Jonah 1:13-14

Let’s summarize the readings of 1:7-14.

The sailors tried everything. They threw cargo overboard to allow the ship to ride higher in the midst of the waves. They attempted to row and steer the ship to shore. They failed.

They then concluded that the storm was the work of the gods. So they “rolled dice” to see who among them had offended one or more of the gods. The last roll points to Jonah. He admits his rebellion and urges them to toss him overboard. He was convinced this would abate the storm.
