“Preparing for the Lord’s Supper”

1 Corinthians 11:17-22

The Corinthian church misunderstood most everything. They argued. They competed against one another. They sued one another in court. They tolerated immorality in their membership (5:1). And they misunderstood the meaning and practice of the Lord’s Supper. We will spend this week looking at this most important ordinance, then when we gather this coming Sunday, we will share the bread and the cup together in our worship services.

Apparently, the congregation gathered for a fellowship meal before they celebrated the Lord’s Supper. Note the issues they brought to bear when they gathered: divisions, prejudice, and lack of self-control.
