Matthew 4:18-22

Keep in mind, the disciples did not immediately abandon their jobs and follow Jesus. Peter, Andrew, James and John first encountered Jesus in the wilderness near the Dead Sea. They had apparently taken a break from their fishing business in Galilee (far to the north) to spend time with John the Baptist. They had returned to Galilee and taken up fishing again when, several months later, Jesus met them on the shores of the Sea of Galilee and invited them to put aside their fishing nets and follow him. The parallel passage in Luke 5:1-11 does not mention Andrew, though it is obvious he was there. This brother lived in the shadows most of the time. Apparently this was fine with him.
