What is a Disciple? “I will make you”

Luke 5:1-11

Luke adds details to the story of Jesus calling the first disciples. The seasoned fishermen had been out all night casting their nets with nothing to show for it. Then Jesus asked them to do one thing more—put out into deep water. Deep water sounds dangerous. The fishermen were discouraged. They didn’t feel like going back out. There was no evidence to believe they’d have any better luck than the night before. So why did they do it? Peter tells us: “Master…because you say so” (5:5). Disciples get discouraged. Disciples have disappointments. Disciples have fears and doubts. But in the end, disciples obey the Master.
