January 22 – John 6:1-7

The next mention we have of Philip occurs at the miracle of the feeding of the great multitude. Here pessimistic Philip displays a lack of faith. Some have suggested Philip was the logistical disciple—always looking at how to get things done. Where would the disciples sleep on a given night? Where could they find food and water? When the thousands gathered to listen to Jesus, the Lord asked Philip how he thought the crowd could be fed.

Philip’s response reveals he had already given this issue great consideration—200 denari (one denarius equaled a day’s pay) would not even come close. Seeing the obvious caused Philip to completely miss the ability of Jesus to reward one’s faith. Have you ever been so focused on the obstacles in front of you only to miss out on the power of God to do great things in your life?
