January 10 – Luke 22:14-23

Jesus ate the Passover meal with his followers every year. Here in the final week of his life, we find him around the Passover table once again. But this time is different. After going through the familiar elements of the Passover celebration, he stopped, picked up the bread they had already shared, and gave it to his disciples again. He did the same with the cup of wine. Each time he asked them to remember him as they ate and drank. He likened the bread to his body and the wine to his blood. No longer would his followers look back at the Exodus as their salvation; they would look at his death on the cross and his eventual return as their salvation. So do we.
