In this chapter, Isaiah shares a brief vision of what seems to be the coming Kingdom Age. He uses the term “the latter days” to reference this period. Interestingly, we find much of this same description in Micah 4:1-5. During this era, our Lord Jesus will rule and reign from Jerusalem and it will be a time unlike any this sin-cursed world has ever known. “The mountain of the Lord’s house shall be exalted above the hills. And all nations shall flow to it.” What a marvelous thought that the whole earth will be filled with the knowledge of the Lord. It will be a time of unequaled peace and joy. (We find much more concerning these events in Isaiah 11 and 65 as well as in many other places in Scripture).
The second part of chapter 2 makes reference to the coming “day of the Lord.” We believe this time is to be the grand and glorious return of our Lord at the end of the Tribulation. There are many scriptural references to this time period, perhaps none more descriptive than Revelation 19:11-21. The two events prophesied in Isaiah should encourage us and give us the desire to study God’s Word and learn more of these events to come at some future time.
