Stage Two: The Spiritual Infant/Child

1 Peter 2:2-3

No one likes to be called a baby, especially if you’re a kid. Though the connotation can be condescending, each one of us begins life, and spiritual life, in infancy. Many times we, the church, haven’t done much to help spiritual infants develop beyond dependence on others, confusion about spiritual things, and biblical ignorance. Infants are left to grow up on their own. However, the truth is that discipleship is a sequential, reproducible process by which we can all grow into spiritual maturity. We all start somewhere. 1 Peter 2:2-3 says a good place to start is to desire God’s Word—to taste of God’s graciousness. What about you? Stop and ask God to give you a desire for more of the milk and meat of his Word.
