Nathanael had his hang-ups as well. He was human. He was prejudiced. Nathanael could have politely mentioned that the Old Testament passages identified Bethlehem as the Messiah’s hometown. He could have included the Messiah’s interest in Jerusalem, the capital city of Judah. Instead, he blurted out an obvious slur: “Can any good thing come out of Nazareth?” Prejudice can blind God-fearing people to the truth. It always has and still does.
