Deeply Rooted - Week 2:

1 Thessalonians 1:1-10

Joy is not like happiness which is based upon circumstances or whether things are going well or not. It can be described as exhilaration, delight, or sheer gladness in response to a great success or an event like a wedding or graduation, but the definition of joy the world holds is not nearly as amazing as the joy talked about in the Bible. All throughout Scripture, joy is a supernatural gift of the Holy Spirit, which allows the believer to remain joyful even in times of difficulty and suffering.

You cannot fake joy—you either have it or you do not. In 1:6, Paul exhorts the church at Thessalonica for demonstrating authentic joy during times of great difficulty and how their joy positively impacted believers in other churches in the region. Joy is contagious.
