10 Days of Proverbs
A man’s discretion makes him slow to anger,
And it is his glory to overlook a transgression.
DAY 8 - Proverbs 22: Encouragement for moms and dads
While 22:6-7 is a proverb many parents hold onto concerning their children’s futures, it is not a “magical” formula, nor is it a promise as so many think that it is. It actually can be viewed as a double-edged sword. Which way are we training them to walk? For instance, if they have been taught to run after pleasing the world and amassing worldly treasures, fame and success, then “they won’t depart from” that. However, if we are teaching and training them to follow after God, to learn all they can about Him and to serve Him with their whole heart, then “they won’t depart” from that. The literal rendering of the phrase “won’t depart” is “won’t forget.” Our children will never forget the manner in which they were raised.
