Stage Four: The Spiritual Parent

Acts 9:23-30

Not everyone receives or perceives Jesus as “good news.” Most of the Jewish people in Jesus’ day did not perceive or receive him as the Messiah. Just look at Saul before his conversion (Acts 9:1).

So when the Jews tried to kill the newly-converted Saul, other Christ-followers came to his rescue. They helped him physically and spiritually - one person in particular: Barnabas. In Greek, Barnabas means “Son of Encouragement.” And, he definitely lived up to his name. He was an encourager, a disciple-maker, and a spiritual parent.

Who are you “encouraging” today?
