Colossians 3:12

After we have taken off everything of our earthly nature, put it to death, and had the funeral, Paul says we are to clothe ourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.

I don’t know about you, but I have to think about what I wear each day. What is the weather going to be like? What season is it? Will what I wear be appropriate for the activities that day. I intentionally put on the clothes I wear. Paul says just as consciously and intentionally as choosing to put on a garment, we are to carefully choose to put on patience. Like anything else, we have the choice to be patient or not. We can consciously choose to slow down, breathe deeply, and be patient.

3:12 begins with the phrase, “Therefore as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved…” God chose us. He chose to be patient with us. He chooses to be patient with humanity. We can choose patience with his process in our lives.
