We see the passionate "sons of thunder" in action in this passage. There was great hostility between Jews and Samaritans, and the disciples knew what it meant to travel through their area on the way to Jerusalem. Samaritans hated Jews and would certainly make Jesus' journey very difficult as they traveled. Jesus had shown the Samaritans nothing but kindness and grace. James and John offered to take care of the problem by bringing fire from heaven, but that wasn't Jesus' way. Is there a situation in your life right now in which you are tempted to resolve it in a way that does not mesh with the way Jesus would have you respond?
