John 14:27

In this chapter of John, Christ talks to his disciples about the pain they will face when he is crucified. They are close friends—more like brothers—and his suffering and death are sure to cause them confusion, question, and grief. Jesus’ greatest offer of comfort to them was the promise of his Spirit. He assures them the Spirit will come and be their help and their guide. They will not be alone even when they feel abandoned. And the Spirit will remind them of all Jesus has said and done when the world’s struggles cause them to lose sight and forget. Jesus says the peace he leaves with them is the kind of peace that calms their hearts and stomps out their fears. Jesus is the reason we can look beyond brokenness with hope.
