You are probably familiar with the account of Lazarus' death and the way Jesus brought him back to life, but have you ever noticed the last verse and what it tells us about Thomas? Jesus ran a great risk in returning to Bethany to raise his friend from the dead. The religious leaders were there and ready to stone him. When Jesus tells his followers he must return, they question his sanity and desire to go back (11:8). However, Thomas shows his true dedication and love for Jesus in the final verse. He knows, in his mind, that Jesus will die, and Thomas has already determined he does not want to live without Christ. Could you say the same thing today? Are you willing to follow Christ's lead even if it means death?
