Matthew only mentions himself twice in his gospel. However, we know several things about Matthew from reading his own account: Matthew knew the Old Testament well, he believed in God, he looked for the Messiah, he dropped everything immediately when he met Jesus, and in the joy of his newfound relationship, he embraced the outcasts of the world and introduced them to Jesus. Notice Matthew's genealogy includes women. Matthew includes people who in the eyes of many would be of no account.
