Stage Two: The Spiritual Infant/Child

Colossians 3:12-17

Someone might ask, “How is it possible that I’ve been in church all of my life and spiritually I’m still a child?” The answer, at least in part, lies in how connected you are to God, others, and your purpose in the church. It is entirely possible to fool others, and even ourselves, into believing we are more spiritually mature than we actually are if we keep God, others, and our purpose at arm’s length. Sometimes the connection can get messy. Connecting to God means I must admit my sin. Connecting to others means I must be transparent—admitting my struggles and fears, risking being hurt. Connecting to my purpose might mean I serve in an area of ministry and fail. But the truth is—if I want to mature beyond childhood, I must establish these connections. Pray that God would give you courage to connect in a deeper way in these areas.
