Week Eight, February 20-26

Romans 3:23 says, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” The word “all” is the key word to this verse. “All” means everybody; no one is exempt. “All” means that even a “man after God’s own heart” who is also a mighty king and warrior is just as wretched a sinner as a convict on death row. Since everyone has sinned, we all need a savior. And what makes the ugly passages we will read this week beautiful is that we see a king fall on his knees before the Lord begging for forgiveness and receiving it. It also reveals that even though forgiveness is granted, it does not mean we do not suffer from the consequences of our sins, but, even then, God proves himself faithful and helps us through the darkest of times with his steadfast love, mercy, and grace.
