Activity: Enter as a Stranger (especially for families with children)—Take turns having family members (young and old) stand on the threshold of your home. One by one, open the door and enter your little universe. Use your senses to describe this space. How does it look, smell, and sound? Would you feel welcome as a visitor? What do you think the Magi experienced when they met Jesus? (Remember, he was not in the stable when they met him.)
Prayer of Thanksgiving: As a family, give thanks for one another. Out of all the people in the entire world, God gave you to each other. This year might have been a difficult one. You might have lost a loved one. Parents might have divorced. Finances might be strained due to the loss of a job or unforeseen expenses. Relationships might have ended. An illness might have been endured. There may have been a wedding. A baby could have been born. A long sought after goal could have been achieved. Whatever this year brought to your front door—give thanks! Give thanks that you are not alone. Give thanks that God cares and provides for your every need. Give thanks that every heart who prepares HIM room will never know true darkness—for Jesus is the Light, the Truth, and the Way in this world, in this universe, and beyond!
