Philippians 4:10-14

Ugly Emptiness

Paul was certainly familiar with circumstances that brought great joy as well as those of trials. He knew highs and lows and everything in between. These words, penned from a prison cell, serve as a challenge to be content in all circumstances.

Contentment is being satisfied in our God in the here and now. Do circumstances change? Yes. Are some days better than others? Certainly. But our satisfaction in our God does not have to be dictated by the changes around us. We are not called to be satisfied by this world or by what our days bring our way, but content in our God. We can have joy in the midst of each and every day because he is with us. What we celebrated and anticipated for the past weeks was the birth of our Lord. Because of his life, death, and resurrection, he is still with us. We still have much to celebrate.
