Isaiah 53:1-12

The Ugly Preparations

Years before Jesus’ birth, Isaiah wrote about the suffering the Messiah would endure. The people did not understand how that could be. They were expecting a Messiah who would return Israel to political greatness, much like under the reign of King David.

As Christ-followers, we know the bigger story of God’s Messiah, Jesus. While we celebrate the birth of Jesus, we celebrate that the child was born to save, which means he was born to suffer and die. In the complete story of Jesus, we see the ugliness of Jesus’ suffering, which becomes the beauty of our salvation through a relationship with him. “For God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life” (John 3:16).
