Galatians 4:4-5

Who doesn’t love Christmas carols? One of the more prominent Christmas traditions in Australia is the large “Carols by Candlelight” service held in each state capital city. It sounds not unlike our own Christmas Eve candlelight service. Of course, in December down under, they are caroling in t-shirts and flip-flops!

I especially love the carols that capture the ardent longing of God’s people for their Messiah: “Oh, Come, Oh Come, Emmanuel!” and “Come, Thou Long Expected Jesus!” Think of the faith it took for those Old Testament saints to hold on to God’s promise for millennia and to pass that faith on from generation to generation.
