It’s fall! My favorite season. I like fall because it is full of change.
Changing weather. Hopefully gone are the 100 degree days of summer. Changing colors, especially of the leaves. I can hardly wait to see God’s handiwork later in October. Changing sports. Baseball playoffs are almost here. Football season is in full swing. Changing schedules. We are off and running in our new Bible Study year and new Sunday night schedule, which includes our very first FX (Family Experience) this Sunday night, October 2, at 6 pm. I hope you’ll plan to join us for this fun evening of families doing discipleship activities together.
Speaking of change, we’ve made several changes in the church offices. When the Long Range Planning Committee reported to the church around this time last year, one of the adopted recommendations was to identify a person or minister who could help us do a better job of marketing our church to the community. On behalf of the Personnel Committee, I am delighted to announce that Rob Peterman, our worship leader at 11 am service, is transitioning into this new full-time hybrid position. Rob has an undergraduate degree in marketing in addition to his musical skills. Rob will continue to lead in our 11 am worship and work with our student band on Wednesday evenings. Rob is also transitioning to become our Associate Minister for Marketing and Media. He will work with our newly established marketing team to help our church develop a comprehensive marketing plan. And yes, this newsletter is his first publication for us! Thank you, Rob.
That leads to my second announcement about changes in the office. With Rob changing roles, the Personnel Committee had another Associate-level vacancy to fill. This committee met on August 15 and again on September 6 to affirm their decision to bring Jeffri Foster on as a part-time Student Ministry Associate. Jeffri is the wife of our new Student Minister, BJ Foster.
BJ & Jeffri expressed their desire to serve together in ministry from the very first time we met with them. At the time, we only had one position open, so we weren’t sure how things would develop. With these other changes taking place, the Personnel Committee believes now is the perfect time to bring Jeffri on as part-time Student Minister Associate.
The season of fall brings many natural changes that God designed for our benefit. I encourage you to stop right now, where you are, and pray to thank God for the changes he brings in all areas of our lives. Accepting change—especially his change--means we are alive and growing! God is working in us and through us to change hearts and minds so that ALL will know of his love.
On behalf of the Personnel Committee
