The human default is to stand in judgment when someone around us stumbles. This is not how Jesus operated. Jesus modeled a “spirit of gentleness” as he sought to correct the behavior of the woman caught in adultery, Zacchaeus, the woman at the well, and Peter. Each of them went away feeling valued, loved, forgiven, and restored.
Which group of people were the source of much frustration for Jesus because of their actions and attitudes? (See Matthew 23:1-3) Why were they such a problem for him, his message, and his new followers? Think about how they treated people who they believed were not living up to their standards.
