Messy Lives

Psalm 119:105, Jeremiah 17:5-8, Matthew 7:24-27
In the middle of the mess, we must stand on a firm foundation. Day in and day out, we must continually look to God and his promises to provide the direction of our footsteps. It is one thing to listen to his voice, but so much more to walk in faith and obedience after hearing it. The messiness in life will almost always happen. If our trust is in the Lord, then the promise is that we will be “like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit” (Jeremiah 17:8 ESV). When we root ourselves next to the source, we will never find ourselves lacking or wanting. “Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you” (James 4:8a ESV).
