Introduction to The Hollow

Job’s Wife

Job 2:1-10

Of all the good things in Job’s life that God allowed Satan to take away from Job, the fact that Job’s wife wasn’t on the “chopping block” to begin with speaks volumes. Yes, it is true she lost as much as Job had: children, servants, Job’s livelihood, and now his health. Unlike Job, his wife became bitter and angry. But who could blame her?

In time of testing, our first question must not be, “How can I get out of this?” but “What can I get out of this?” Job’s wife thought she had the problem solved, but if Job had followed her counsel, it would have only made things worse. Faith is living without scheming. It is obeying God in spite of circumstances or consequences and yielding to his plan for our lives instead of our own.
