John 11:55-John 12:1

Jesus resuscitated his friend, Lazarus, back to life (11:1-46). Because of the uproar this miracle caused, Jesus retreated to an isolated area with his disciples. He no longer appeared among the people. But the people were looking for him. The religious leaders feared for their positions of authority and prestige. Would Jesus show his face in Jerusalem during the Passover—the greatest feast on the calendar?

Jesus made his way back to the village of Bethany and stayed with Lazarus, Mary, and Martha. Then, he set his face toward Jerusalem, just a short walk down the hillside, past the garden called Gethsemane, to the entrance to the city.
