I Commit to Discipleship
2 Timothy 2:1-7
Don’t you love it when you receive a personal and encouraging note? I received one today. I cannot tell you how much it lifted my spirits.
Barnabas (whose name means “son of encouragement”), encouraged and taught Paul. Paul, in turn, encouraged and instructed the churches he helped to start. He further poured his life into individuals. Our scripture reading for today and tomorrow come from an instructional letter from Paul to Timothy.
Paul encouraged Timothy in four specific ways.
1.Be strong in the grace of Jesus. (Trust completely in Jesus.)
2.Pass on the teachings of Jesus to other faithful Christ-followers. (Keep the discipleship circle going.)
3.Suffer hardships with me. (The Christian walk will be difficult at times; keep growing.)
4.Consider or take-to-heart these teachings. (Pray, asking Jesus to teach you personally.)
Paul’s encouraging words are not only for Timothy but for all Christ-followers, including you and me.
