John 3:16, Proverbs 3:5-6

Taylor Peterman, grade 6

I grew up going to church every week with my family. Even though they made me go, I still enjoyed it. I enjoyed Sunday School, my teachers, and learning about the Bible. I always heard people talking about “being with God” and having a relationship with Him, but I didn’t really understand it until I went to Kids Camp in 2016.

At camp, the theme was “Fearless.” The leaders taught us about how fears can take over your life, but I learned how I could always count on God when I am afraid. In one of the sessions, the leaders had us write down some of our fears, and they gave us verses to help with those fears. When I got home, I was looking up the verses, and I had an indescribable feeling. I knew I needed to ask Jesus into my heart, so I talked with my mom and dad about it. I knew and understood that I was a sinner, and the only way that I could be God’s forever was to pray and ask Him into my heart. My mom and dad were able to answer my questions and prayed with me. I knew I had to make this decision on my own, and it was the best decision I have ever made.

Since I became a Christian, I still have fears and stress, and I still make mistakes. However, I know those things don’t define who I am. I know I am a child of God and that is what defines me. Now, when I am afraid, stressed, or scared, I feel God with me helping me get through those things. I know I am never alone. Some of my favorite Bible verses are John 3:16 and Proverbs 3:5-6. John 3:16 is a reminder of how much God loves me and the rest of the world even though we are sinners. Proverbs 3:5-6 tells me how I can always rely on God and He will never let me down.
