Revelation 3:20-21, John 15:14

Ray Sheehan

“Call Randy Hartman,” was stuck in my head, playing over and over. I didn’t know why. We met once before when he led a Youth for Christ/Campus Crusade Halloween Fun House. I wasn’t sure he would remember me, but I was compelled to call him.

Growing up Catholic, I was very religious. I did my best to do the right things. I knew I sinned so I went to confession and did devotionals. I was trying my best, I thought, so why was the void growing?

It kept getting bigger and bigger, and like an astronomic Black Hole, I knew it would swallow me if I didn’t do something. So I called Randy.

We met again. While Randy was sharing from the Bible with me, nothing made sense until he read the verse: “Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with me” (Revelation 3:20).

THAT WAS IT! Randy kept talking, but that verse played over and over in my head, telling me I can have a personal relationship with Jesus Himself! Randy asked me if I wanted to ask forgiveness and receive Jesus. I think he was shocked when I said, “Sure.”

One of our Bible Study members unknowingly described my life when she said, “Even if you take the wrong turn, God is with you.” Jesus has been right there, even when I turned the wrong way. He’s a True Friend who never turns His back on us.

“Greater love has no one than this; that one lay down his life for his friends” (John 15:14).
